Scripture Reflection by Matt Grode
The readings for this week initially appear to foresee the hellfire and brimstone of the end times, but these readings are also a message of hope and justification for those who persevere in Christ. Jesus knew that the Christians were going to face hard times ahead with horrendous persecutions because of their faith. But Jesus does not tell them they need to go it alone, but that He will be with them to guide them through their trials. And so just as gold is tested in fire so to must we as Christians persevere in order to earn our daily bread. For “…if anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat.” The Christian life is not about saying, but about doing. I pray that we all one day may hear those words of God say to us “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.” We’ve got to walk the walk with Christ.
