Reflection

The temptation of Jesus in the desert is another demonstration of the fullness of his humanity.  He was tempted just like we are today.  He lived in the world and faced the struggles of it but did not succumb to the temptations and neither should we.  1 Corinthians 10:13 says, “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”  The devil probably won’t ask us to jump off the roof of a temple, but we are faced with other worldly temptations.  The world presents us with many options and opportunities, but which ones are the most honorable to Christ?  What choice is he calling us to make?  We, as Christians, are held to high standards.  Christ expects much from us.  Will we live according to the ways of the world, giving in to its materialism, self-centeredness, and focus on success and money?  Or will we live as Christ calls us, giving of ourselves, loving others, and focusing on the important things in life, like relationships with others?
