The course explores the many ways in which sport impacts society and reflects our society and culture. Such topics as youth sports, fandom, sports and gender, sports and race, and sports and the arts will be included. Through readings, discussions and conference attendance, students will explore and research the multiple influences that sports have on our lives and the lives of others. Attendance at the "A Mirror of our Culture Sport and Society in America" conference is required.
Full degree tuition for the course will also cover the cost of the conference.
