Certificate program

Certificate of theological competency

This is available for those who perhaps have a bachelor's degree in some other area and who are seeking to enhance and enrich their theological background. The person should have at least a foundational knowledge of scripture and theology.

Admission requirements:

  1. Official transcripts, demonstrating a minimum grade point average of 3.0, mailed by the college or university to the coordinator of the MTS program, evidencing a bachelors degree from an accredited institution.
  2. Minimum of eight credits in theology/religious studies including courses in Introduction to the Bible and Introduction to Theology (or their equivalents).  Provisional enrollment status may be given to students who do not meet this requirement.  When necessary, students may obtain these credits through the Commissioned Ministry Leadership Formation Program at the Green Bay Diocese.
  3. Non-degree application form.
  4. $50 non-refundable application fee.
  5. Interview with the Program Director and a member of the MTS Policy Committee.
  6. A 500 word essay explaining a) What motivated you to consider the Certificate of Theological Competency b) What are your future ministerial hopes and expectations and how do you see this certificate helping you to achieve these goals?

Graduation requirements:

  1. Completion of the core theological courses (THEO 501-506) with a minimum GPA of 3.00.
  2. Final project paper.
