THEO 589: After Fifty Years: The Ongoing Renewal of Catholic Worship

At the approach of the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, this course will engage a fresh reading of the Council's first document, The Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy. From a review of the document's "to do" list, student will be invited to explore with the professor topics central to their interest or area of study, e.g., ritual music, liturgy as pastoral care, liturgy and the moral life, liturgy and the arts, the new Roman Missal, liturgy and spirituality.

Ciferni
Rev. Andrew Ciferni, O.Praem.
Fr. Ciferni, a graduate of St. Norbert College, received his doctorate from the University of Notre Dame. He has taught at the Catholic University of America and at the Washington Theological Union where he was also Academic Dean. At Daylesford Abbey, he served as Rector of the Abbey Church and Director of Mission Advancement. He was a founding member of the North American Academy of Liturgy and a co-convener of the study group on art and environment. He is also the founding member and first convener of the Catholic Academy of Liturgy. Fr. Ciferni has served as an advisor to the U.S. Bishops' Committee on Liturgy, as a member of the international Norbertine Liturgy Commission and currently as the chair of the international Norbertine Commission on Canonical Life and Spirit of the Order. He has taught a wide range of courses including: The Church Year, Liturgy and Pastoral Care, Environment and Art, Ritual Music, Norbertine History and Spirituality, Bowen Family System Theory and Tavistock Group Relations. He is proficient in six languages.

This is a two credit course with tuition costs of $780 plus a technology fee of $26.25.
