Joining the St. Norbert Faculty in the fall of 2010, Karen Stefiuk is the new adjunct teacher of clarinet.  An active performer, she has played regularly with the Elgin Symphony, Rockford Symphony, Fox Valley Symphony, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Muncie Symphony, and even subbed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.  A highlight of her playing career was being named an associate member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, an elite group of musicians part of a training program under the world famous Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Karen loves teaching and has taught private lessons for the past 15 years.  As a member of the Rockford Symphony, she was delighted to participate in their "Symphony goes to School" program.  This program allowed Karen to go into public school classrooms to teach and play for children - often introducing live classical music for the first time.  Here in Green Bay, she has been able to teach the woodwind students of the Green Bay Symphony Youth Orchestra, as well as hold master classes for youth orchestra musicians.

As a Governor's Scholar for the state of Tennessee, Karen was one of two high school students from the state chosen to attend the Interlochen School for the Arts' summer camp.  She also attended Eastern Music Festival and Idywild Arts Academy Summer Festival.

Karen holds a bachelor of music degree from Northern Illinois University and both a masters degree and a performer's certificate from the Peabody Conservatory of Music.  While attending Peabody, she was principal clarinet of the Peabody Symphony Orchestra for all three years of attendance.  Her principal teachers include Steven Barta (principal - Baltimore Symphony), Jon Bruce Yeh (assistant principal - Chicago Symphony Orchestra), and Melvin Warner (principal - Chicago Sinfionetta)
