St. Norbert College to host open forum on access and affordability of higher education

From St. Norbert College, January 29, 2009
by Mike Counter,, (920) 403-3089

A public forum on college access and affordability featuring keynote speaker Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton will be held Monday, March 2, at 7 p.m. The event is free and will take place in Fort Howard Theater, Bemis International Center at St. Norbert College. The open forum is for anyone wanting to know more about financing a college education, specifically targeting Brown and Door County residents. Lawton will discuss what is going on at the state level as it applies to higher education. She will stress the importance of Wisconsin residents attending college. Come ready to ask questions.

Local college leaders will then share their commitment and efforts to ensure their institutions remain affordable. St. Norbert College president Thomas Kunkel along with Jane Muhl, president, Bellin College of Nursing; Verna Fowler, president, College of Menominee Nation; H. Jeffrey Rafn, president, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College; and David Ward, interim chancellor, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, will discuss what is going on at their respective institutions.

Each institution will also have financial aid, admission and other representatives available for one-on-one time with families following the presentation portion of the evening.

St. Norbert is taking a multi-media approach to get out the word on the increasingly important topic of financial aid -- and on its own commitment to making a college education attainable for more students.

For the 2009-10 school year, St. Norbert College will be offering more assistance in the form of academic scholarships and need-based financial aid than at any time in its history.

As part of an aggressive campaign to educate college-bound high school students and their families, St. Norbert is producing a combination of print, web-based and radio information pieces covering an array of financial aid subjects. This open forum, hosted by St. Norbert College, is part of this campaign to make sure that Wisconsin residents attend college.
