St. Norbert College fraternity Tau Kappa Epsilon, Sigma-Xi chapter, was chosen for three undergraduate Awards of Excellence, and recent graduate Dan Schaefer was selected for the Top Teke award.

The fraternity was awarded with excellence in involvement-community service, excellence in achievement-academic success, and excellence in achievement-extracurricular activities. The fraternity also received honorable mention for alumni relations and chapter size. Seth Wanta, president of the Teke chapter at St. Norbert College, said, "The awards are recognition for the work that we have been doing, and if we continue to receive awards we could be chosen for the Top Teke chapter award, one of the highest honors given by the national Teke community."

Schaefer, a native of Chicago, Ill., was among eight graduating fraters from across the United States and Canada to receive the Top Teke award of 2009, given for exceptional performance as a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon. On his distinction, Schaefer said, "There are many Tekes that have accomplished great things within their chapters so it was definitely an honor to even be in the same group as these individuals. My brothers in Teke at St. Norbert College are the main reason I was even considered, let alone won, this award." Schaefer is featured in THE TEKE magazine and on their web site.

The awards were presented at the 55th Biennial Conclave in New Orleans, La., August 6-9, 2009.
