From St. Norbert College, September 14, 2009
by Chelsey Gruetzmacher, chelsey.gruetzmacher@snc.edu, (920) 403-3089
"Turning Old Pages, Singing New Notes" will feature the world premiere of new music composed by Alexander Nohai-Seaman and Jerry Hui, as well as a song cycle inspired by the life and words of the Trappist monk, poet, and social activist, Fr. Thomas Merton (1915-1968.)
Stimulated by the sacred environment of St. Norbert Abbey, the artistic legacy of the religious imagination, and images drawn from ancient Chinese poetry, this shared sculptural exhibition and musical concert will celebrate the "art and artistry of meditation." The collaborative concert seeks to combine and present both Western and Eastern aesthetics, the visual and the aural, the permanent and the ethereal, and the rhythms and movements of natural and religious rituals.
