Orfield, who is director of the Institute on Metropolitan Opportunity, a non-resident senior fellow at the Brookings Institute in Washington, D.C., and a faculty member with the University of Minnesota's Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, is a national authority on race and local and regional economics.
In 1990, Orfield was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives, where he served five terms, and to the Minnesota Senate in 2000, where he served one term.
