National Residence Hall Honorary • Green Knights Chapter
Constitution (Revised Spring Semester 2008)

ARTICLE I: NAME

This organization shall  be recognized as the Green Knights Chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH).

ARTICLE II: MISSION AND PURPOSE

The purpose of NRHH shall be to provide recognition for those individuals who have contributed outstanding service and who have provided important leadership in the advancement of on-campus living at St. Norbert College.

Additionally, NRHH shall provide a means by which members may continue to use leadership qualities in developing other leaders and serving the community through a variety of projects, both on and off campus.

ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP

Section I: Qualifications for Membership

A. Shall be a student in good standing with the college and shall have a minimum of a 2.75 cumulative grade point average.

B. Shall have resided in an on-campus living facility at St. Norbert College:

  1. For 2 or more semesters and be completing at least their second semester during the semester of induction

C. Shall be enrolled in a minimum of 3 classes during the semester of induction.

D. Shall have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the residence halls at St. Norbert College.

Section II: Types of Membership

A. An ACTIVE member shall be defined as one who is enrolled at SNC as a matriculated student and who resides in any on-campus housing, which includes the seven traditional Residence Halls as well as campus-owned apartments and houses.  Active members shall constitute the entire voting body and shall pay the dues set forth at the discretion of the executive board and if the executive board so chooses.

B. An INACTIVE member shall be defined as a member who is enrolled at SNC as a matriculated student and meets one of the following conditions: is no longer able to actively participate in NRHH activities or meetings, or no longer has the required minimum GPA.

C. ALUMNI membership shall consist of members of NRHH who are no longer SNC students.  Alumni members shall have no voting privileges.

D. HONORARY members shall be chosen by the active body in recognition of outstanding service to on-campus residential living.  Honorary members shall have no voting privileges.  Honorary recognition will be given infrequently and may be given to:

1. Individuals who no longer live on-campus

2. Individuals who have already graduated

3. Under rare circumstances, individuals living on campus

Section III: Attendance

A. The attendance policy shall only apply to active members of NRHH.

B.  All active members shall be required to attend at least 75% of the total scheduled meetings.

C. All active members shall be required to attend a minimum of 75% of the total NRHH-sponsored/coordinated events.

D. Exceptions and excused absences from the above guidelines shall be approved or denied by the Executive board following a written request from the member seeking the waiver.

E. Active members who do not satisfy the attendance policy and have not received an attendance waiver shall become an inactive member. This shall be reviewed on a semester basis.

Section IV: Academic Probation

A. In the event that a member’s cumulative GPA falls below the minimum 2.75, that member shall be placed on a one semester probationary period.

B. At the conclusion of the probationary semester, if the member’s GPA does not meet the minimum 2.75 GPA, that member shall be placed on inactive status.

C. Should that member achieve a 2.75 minimum GPA, that member shall regain active status.

ARTICLE IV: SELECTION OF MEMBERS

Section I: Nomination Procedures

Nominations may be made by any individual in an on-campus residential facility, by any Student Life staff member, or faculty member.

Section II: Selection Committee

A. The selection committee shall consist of the NRHH president, the NRHH advisor, and the selection committee.

B. The process of evaluation of the nominations and application forms shall be left to the discretion of the selection committee and subject to the approval by the Advisor.

C. Honorary membership nominations shall be made by any voting member. All nominations shall be discussed by the president and advisor. The president shall submit a list of candidates to the voting membership who will select Honorary members by a majority vote.

Section III: Selection Standards

A. At no time shall the active membership of St. Norbert College NRHH Chapter exceed 1% of the total population of the seven traditional residence halls, or 15 members, whichever is higher.

B. Each candidate must have contributed outstanding service, leadership, and involvement for the advancement of the residence hall system.

C. The Selection Committee shall review all applications during the induction semester.

ARTICLE V: EXECUTIVE BOARD

Section I: Selection of Officers

A. Any candidate for office must meet all membership requirements and must be an active member.

B. The elections for the offices of President, Vice-President, Executive Assistant, and OTM Coordinator shall take place before the conclusion of the Spring semester.

C. Voting shall be through written ballot.

D. The candidate who receives the largest vote of active members shall be elected.

E. In the event that there are no candidates for a position in the Spring, a special election shall be held within the first three weeks of the Fall semester to fill the vacancy.

Section II: Officers and Duties

A.    President

  1. The president shall hold the office for one academic year unless he/she ceases to live in campus-owned housing, become ineligible, or resigns, at which point the Vice-president shall assume the position.
  2. The president shall preside over each chapter meeting.
  3. The president shall have the authority to appoint active members to all chapter committees as well as vacant positions with the final approval of the chapter.
  4. The president shall vote only to break a tie.
  5. The president shall be or shall appoint a spokesperson for the chapter when necessary.
  6. The president shall attend or appoint a representative to attend meetings of RHA.
  7. The president shall submit an end of the year progress report with one copy sent to the National honorary office, one filed in the permanent files of the chapter, and one filed with Leadership Involvement Services.
  8. The president shall renew the chapter’s membership as a registered campus organization with the National   Organization and Leadership Involvement Services.
  9. The president will coordinate and be a liaison for the Selection Committee.
  10. The president shall attend all business meetings and conferences as a representative of the Green Knights Chapter.
  11. The president shall work with representatives of the Residence Hall Association to lead delegations to regional and national conferences.
  12. The president shall be responsible for communication with the National Office of NRHH.
B.    Vice-President
  1. The vice-president shall assume the office of the president upon vacancy during the academic year.
  2. The vice-president shall hold office for one academic year, unless he or she become ineligible, resigns, or ceases to live in campus-owned housing.
  3. Upon vacancy, a new election shall take place within three weeks to fill the vacancy.
  4. The vice-president shall preside at the meetings in the absence of the president.
  5. The vice-president shall coordinate and liaison for the Recognition Committee.
  6. The vice-president shall be the authority on the NRHH constitution.
C. Executive Assistant
  1. The Executive Assistant shall hold office for one academic year, unless he/she becomes ineligible, resigns, or ceases to live in on-campus housing.
  2. Upon vacancy, an election shall take place within three weeks to fill the position.
  3. The Executive Assistant shall preside at meetings in the absence of the president and vice-president.
  4. The Executive Assistant shall keep accurate, up-to-date records of attendance as well as accurate minutes of all chapter and executive board meetings.
  5. The Executive Assistant shall be responsible for distributing meeting minutes, agendas, and announcements.
  6. The Executive Assistant shall be responsible for all NRHH correspondence.
  7. The Executive Assistant will coordinate and liaison the Social Committee.
  8. The Executive Assistant shall be the officer responsible for the upkeep of the chapter's financial well being
  9. The Executive Assistant shall maintain an accurate ledger of the chapter's financial activity.
  10. The Executive Assistant's ledger shall be made available to any chapter member upon request.
  11. Chapter expenditures must be approved by the President and Executive Assistant or 50%+1 of the voting chapter membership.
  12. The Executive Assistant may not authorize or actualize any payment that threatens the chapter budget.  

D.    Of the Month (OTM) Coordinator

  1. The OTM coordinator shall hold office for one academic year, unless he/she becomes ineligible, resigns, or ceases to live in on-campus housing.
  2. Upon vacancy, an election shall take place within three weeks to fill the position.
  3. The OTM coordinator will coordinate the selection of OTM’s each month.
  4. The OTM coordinator will advertise OTM’s and encourage nominations/participation.
  5. The OTM coordinator will coordinate and liaison the OTM committee.

ARTICLE VI: COMMITTEES AND ACTIVITIES

Activities of NRHH shall consist of the following.  In addition to others deemed appropriate by the general membership: induction banquet, membership process, special programming, student recognition, community service projects, and assisting and supporting programs/events coordinated by RHA and Residential Life in general.

ARTICLE VII: MEETINGS

Section I: Quorum

A. One half plus one of the active members shall constitute a quorum.

B. Parliamentary procedure shall be used in conjunction with Robert’s Rules of Order in the interpretation of the Constitution.

Section II: Frequency

A. The chapter shall meet at least every other week at a designated location.

B. Executive board meetings shall be held at a time and location prior to each general meeting.

ARTICLE VIII: CHAPTER REPORTS

Section I: At the beginning of each academic year, the local chapter shall submit a report to the national office including a revised list of active members, chapter officers, and advisors for that year.

Section II: At the termination of the academic year, the local chapter shall submit to the national office an end of the year report, a list of new members and advisor(s), and any other pertinent information requested by the national office.

ARTICLE IX: BY-LAWS

Chapter by-laws to this constitution may be adopted by a simple majority vote of the active membership.

ARTICLE X: HONOR CORDS

  1. In order for active members to receive NRHH Honor Cords upon graduation from St. Norbert College, they must have attended 75% of the chapter meetings and have participated in 75% of activities sponsored/organized by NRHH.
  2. In order for alumni members to receive NRHH Honor Cords upon graduation at SNC, they must have attended 75% of chapter meetings and have participated in 75% of activities sponsored/organized by NRHH.

ARTICLE XI: NON-DISCRIMINATION STATEMENT

As a member of a recognized student organization at St. Norbert College, we admit students to our organization without regard to race, age, religion, color, gender, disability, sexual orientation, or national or ethnic origin. All rights, privileges, programs, positions, and other activities generally accorded or available to our organization are equally available to each member of our organization.

ARTICLE XII: NON-HAZING STATEMENT

As members of recognized student organization at St. Norbert College, we unconditional oppose placing any or all members of our organization or those of the general student population in situations, which produce mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment, or ridicule. Freedom from the humility and danger of hazing is guaranteed to every member of the College community. We realize that any form of hazing violates College policy and Wisconsin State Statute 948.51.

ARTICLE XIII: UNIVERSITY RECORDS

The St. Norbert College National Residence Hall Honorary Chapter shall maintain a list of current officers, their addresses, the name of the advisor, and the most recently amended constitution with the Office of Residential Life as well as the Department of Leadership, Service and Involvement.
