February 2008 Finalists named in search for next president of St. Norbert College Three finalist candidates in the search for St. Norbert College’s next president have been invited to meet the college community on campus this month. Search committee chair Betsy Buckley ’69 brings you up-to-date on the search and lets you know when and where you can meet the candidates. Dear Fellow Alumni: I am writing to share good news. The presidential search committee has reached a major milestone in our search for the seventh president of St. Norbert College. During an off-campus meeting that spanned two days, the committee conducted a series of in-depth interviews with a strong group of semi-finalist candidates. Our entire committee was present; as a group, we had prepared questions and everyone actively engaged in conversation with the candidates. Each candidate was visibly passionate about the Catholic, Norbertine liberal arts heritage of our college. It was a high energy, hard working weekend where I consistently saw the committee working in a spirit of collaboration and commitment. We are proud to announce that we have chosen three finalist candidates and that each of them has enthusiastically and appreciatively accepted our invitation to come to campus for a two-day visit between Feb. 11 and Feb. 20. The candidates, and your opportunities to meet them, are: Candidate open forums Dr. Victoria Weiss Monday, Feb. 11, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 10:00-11:00 a.m. Fort Howard Theater, Bemis Dr. Fred Pestello Thursday, Feb. 14, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 10:00-11:00 a.m. Fort Howard Theater, Bemis Mr. Thomas Kunkel Tuesday, Feb. 19, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 9:00-10:00 a.m. Fort Howard Theater, Bemis Meet-the-candidate coffee gatherings Dr. Victoria Weiss Tuesday, Feb. 12 11:10-11:50 a.m. Alumni House Dr. Fred Pestello Thursday, Feb. 15 11:10-11:50 a.m. Alumni House Mr. Thomas Kunkel Wednesday, Feb. 20 10:45-11:15 a.m. Alumni House The letters of application and resumes of each candidate are posted on the St. Norbert College presidential search web site: www.snc.edu/president/. Please note that, in order to access the presidential candidates’ vitae, you will need a St. Norbert account. Alumni accounts that have not been used for six months are deleted (unless the e-mail address is being forwarded). If your account is still active but you do not remember the password, please visit www.snc.edu/pw to reset it. To reactivate your account or apply for a new account, please visit www.snc.edu/techsupport/forms/alumapp.html. Please allow at least 48 hours to process. There will be additional opportunities in each candidate’s schedule for connections with President Hynes, the president’s cabinet, faculty, alumni, students, trustees and Norbertines. At each scheduled meeting, those who are present will have an opportunity to provide written feedback using a one-page form. Their input is important—in fact it is critical—to the committee’s deliberations and we encourage them to be diligent in submitting their feedback form. We are progressing on schedule. The committee will, as I noted in the original timeline, bring forward a finalist no later than late February. The final candidate will then need to be approved by the executive committee of the board and the full board, and their recommendation will be forwarded to the abbot for his approval and appointment. This national search produced an exceptional pool. We deeply appreciate the candidate nominations we received from members of the St. Norbert community. On behalf of the committee, let me close by saying how blessed we feel to have arrived at this point of the search with finalist candidates of such high promise. Thank you for your care for and commitment to St. Norbert College. Together, we will keep moving forward. Betsy Buckley ’69 Chair of the Search Committee, Trustee |
