Emmy Award-winning journalist to speak at annual Soul Food Dinner
ABC News reporter Michel McQueen Martin is to deliver the keynote address at this year’s Soul Food Dinner on Saturday, Feb. 28.
McQueen Martin won an Emmy Award for her reporting for ABC News’ “Nightline” and has appeared on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” and “Nightline Upclose.” She is also known as the host of National Public Radio’s “Tell Me More,” a one-hour daily news and talk show broadcasting since 2007.
Before joining ABC, McQueen Martin spent more than a decade covering national politics and policies for The Wall Street Journal and state and local politics for The Washington Post.
Bola Delano-Oriaran (Education) says “[McQueen] has had the national spotlight for years and she’s a credible source of news information as it relates to current and past news. It’s great to have someone of her level to come to SNC in De Pere.”
Delano-Oriaran leads the Black History Month celebrations on campus that include the annual sold-out Soul Food Dinner. In its twelfth year, the event helps celebrate and inform about African American history, which is American history.
McQueen Martin will speak on past presidential campaigns and their implications for African American history.
The event will also feature the KO-THI Dance Company, a Wisconsin-based international touring group. The group will perform traditional African American and Caribbean dance and drumming. The group uses traditional African instruments, costumes and dance to bridge the gap between cultures.
The Soul Food Dinner is open to the public and tickets for the dinner are $25 for adults and $15 for St. Norbert College students and children 5-12. Children 4 and under are free. Advance tickets for the event are available through the St. Norbert College Box Office at (800) 762-2699 or online at tickets.snc.edu.
