It was a great day to be a Knight

Green Knight basketball brought home a double triumph Saturday after both teams emerged victorious from the Midwest Conference championships.

Good news from the hardwood
St. Norbert women hung on in overtime to advance to their 10th NCAA Division III women's basketball tournament with a 56-54 overtime win over Monmouth College on Connie Tilley Court at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights (23-2) are making their third NCAA Tournament appearance in the last four years. Monmouth finished its season 16-9.

St. Norbert survived a furious Monmouth rally in the final four minutes of regulation and then had to make a defensive stop on the final sequence of overtime.

Later the same night, the men’s suffocating defense held Grinnell College to a season-low point total in an 89-67 win, also played at home.

St. Norbert (20-5) advances to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the second straight year and for the fourth time in school history. Grinnell (18-7) had its 10-game winning streak snapped.

The Green Knights held the Pioneers to 21 percent shooting on 3-pointers (13-for-62) and 25 percent (21-for-84) from the floor. Grinnell came into the tournament averaging 104.9 points per game.

Good news from the ice, too
Meanwhile, over at Cornerstone, Green Knight Hockey advanced to the finals of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Peters Cup Playoffs with a 5-3 win over University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

The Green Knights (21-4-1), ranked No. 1 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, remained unbeaten and untied at home this year at 12-0. They will face University of Wisconsin-Superior in the championship next Saturday. River Falls’ season ended 12-14-2, and the Falcons dropped to 0-18 all-time at the Cornerstone against the Green Knights.
