Award-winning creativity takes top honors at the Addys
By Joseph Bergner ’86
I’ve participated in nearly two decades of Addys in my career but this year’s event, held in downtown Green Bay on March 6, held a rather unique and sweet surprise.
On this night, the communications group at St. Norbert joined the ranks of some of the best commercial shops in the area by taking home several Gold Addys (the top award in each category) as well as the coveted Judges Choice award. (The Judges Choice is the overall favorite of the entire show, from all categories.)
The Gold Addy-winning pieces included the new admission viewbook, the outcomes brochure, and the event materials for the inauguration of St. Norbert’s seventh president, Thomas Kunkel. Additionally, a Silver Addy went to an online greeting titled “Merry Christmas from St. Norbert College.”
But the highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the top awards, and finally, the Judges Choice. The St. Norbert team was taken completely by surprise when the admission viewbook garnered the well-deserved judges’ nods as their overall favorite of the show.
Nearly every industry has an award show they look toward for their opportunity to shine – their own “Oscars,” as it were. In the communications business, this event is called the Addy Awards.
Organized through the American Advertising Federation and with more than 60,000 entries nationwide each year that march through local, regional and national tiers, the Addys is the world’s largest advertising competition.
Advertising agencies, design consultancies and in-house communications departments from all walks annually pull together their best and brightest work in hopes of grabbing the silver or gold or one of the ultimate prizes – a coveted Best of Show, People’s Choice or Judges Choice award.
As an industry professional, it’s always exhilarating to see the innovative thinking, the craftsmanship, the brilliance of the best work.
I’m proud to have the St. Norbert legacy in my own career, proud to enjoy a creative partnership with them today, and especially proud to see the brilliant work of my peers and good friends there get the recognition it deserves. Well done! To regionals and beyond!
