June 2008 It’s summertime at St. Norbert Though many students have closed their books, packed up their things and gone home for the summer, campus life is still buzzing. Take a look at this list of amenities—just a few of the reasons students, alumni and community members alike will visit St. Norbert this summer. 1. Enjoy live music. Take in a summer concert during the Knights on the Fox five-week outdoor summer concert series held on the banks of the Fox River Tuesday evenings. The 2008 concert series opens July 15 with Boogie and the YoYoz, and runs through Aug. 12. Concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. and run until 8:00 p.m. Picnicking starts at 5:30 p.m. and concertgoers are welcome to bring their own food or treat themselves to subs, hot dogs, popcorn and other items available for purchase. Both non-credit and traditional courses continue to be offered at St. Norbert during the summer months. The more than 40 classes offered this summer session include topics like Marketing Concepts and Issues; Contemporary Theatre; Christian Symbolism in Art; Introduction to Adobe Photoshop; Human Biology; and Raku Ceramics. The small evening classes offer a comfortable learning environment for working adults. 3. Swing by for lunch. Patrons of Phil’s, one of the on-campus dining facilities, can dine indoors or enjoy scenic patio seating overlooking the Fox River. Phil’s serves lunch each weekday during the summer from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering a wide variety of menu options that include appetizers, soups, salads and sandwiches. You can even find out Phil’s soup and wrap of the day by visiting Phil's web site. 4. Nurture your soul. Come celebrate the college’s Catholic and Norbertine traditions with services open to the public throughout the week. They include Sunday morning Mass, weekday Masses and daily Norbertine prayer, all at Old St. Joe’s. Weekend Mass Sundays at 10 a.m. Weekday Mass Monday-Saturday at 6:45 a.m. Sant’Egidio Prayer Service Tuesdays at 7:15 p.m. Norbertine daily morning prayer Monday-Friday at 7:30 a.m. Norbertine daily evening prayer Sunday-Monday at 5:00 p.m. 5. See a show. This summer, St. Norbert College continues its tradition of presenting top-notch theatre performances, both as home to its own productions and as host to visiting troupes. “Respect,” “High School Musical” and “Aida,” among others, will all have run times throughout the summer.
