|@St. Norbert August 2010 - Newest college celebration will add to the fun for all who gather for this year's Reunion, Sept. 17-19||St. Norbert College|
This year, SNC Day shares the spotlight with Reunion and Family Weekend. Festivities kick off with a family chili dinner for current students and their families on Friday, Sept. 17. The class of 1960 will be inducted as Golden Knights the same evening: a dinner and ceremony follow a special Mass at Old St. Joseph Church.
Saturday is SNC Day, filled with opportunities that include boat and horse-drawn wagon rides, a ropes course, campus walking tours, faculty lectures, wellness activities, an arts and crafts fair, an antique car show and even some St. Norbert trivia, with prizes to be won.
Sept. 18 is also De Pere Fall Fest, and the city, too, will be offering a wide variety of music and other entertainment. Transportation will be provided from the college to the city celebration.
A dinner/dance for all alumni is scheduled for Saturday evening. Offerings for Sunday, Sept. 19, include a legacy-family brunch hosted by President Tom Kunkel, for all students and their parents and grandparents who are St. Norbert graduates.
Combining Reunion Weekend with SNC Day benefits many alumni, says Chris Betcher (Alumni and Parent Relations). “Some had to decide, ‘Do I go back for Reunion or do I go back for SNC Day?’ ”
SNC Day is a good opportunity to showcase the campus not only to the local community but also to returning St. Norbert families, she adds.
“We get to highlight our facilities. The mall area is devoted to children’s events – bouncy houses, face painting and balloon artists. Some events will be held at the new football stadium, so people will get to see the progress on that facility.”
Betcher encourages any groups planning to gather during the weekend to call the alumni and parent relations office for assistance in making arrangements.
“We have Homecoming (Oct. 22-23),” she says, “but we find traditionally that a lot of alums that we see back for Homecoming weekend are those that were involved in student organizations or a Greek group. This way, hopefully more people will want to come back.”
