Dean of the college plans to conclude his term next June

Michael Marsden has asked President Tom Kunkel to promote him back to the faculty after he steps down from his position as dean of the college and academic vice president next June. “I have books to read, classes to teach, and articles and, hopefully, a couple of books to write,” says Marsden, who is a much-quoted expert on popular culture.

Last week, Kunkel announced Marsden’s decision to the college community, saying, “He has elevated our academic profile in every way possible – from overall rigor to systematic program review, from faculty hiring to higher promotion standards, from great research opportunities for students to innovative collaborations with other schools.”

The completion of the current academic year will mark Marsden’s seventh year of service to the college in the role of dean and academic vice president. He says he regards his decision to come to St. Norbert as one of the best professional decisions he had ever made.

Earlier in his career, Marsden served as assistant and then associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Bowling Green State University; as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Northern Michigan University; and as provost at Eastern Kentucky University.
