VOTE for JIM

On election day we hope you go to the polls – twice. We encourage you to cast a vote to decide who will become the new commander in chief. We would also be thrilled if you would consider casting your Vote for Jim.

Head football coach Jim Purtill has been nominated for the 2008 Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year, a national award that recognizes the achievement, dedication and responsibility of college football coaches. It will be awarded to the one coach in each of the four NCAA divisions who demonstrates the utmost integrity on and off the field. It’s up to you to decide who deserves it most by voting on the Coach of the Year web site.

Those coaches who become the top 25 vote-getters in their division will be the ones selected for scoring against a College Football Hall of Fame-approved model.

Purtill has been leading the football troops at St. Norbert for the past 10 seasons and has posted a remarkable 90-16 record.

“Jim Purtill is from the old school of coaches,” says Tim Bald, athletics director at St. Norbert College. “He is what they call a grinder. He puts in the effort both recruiting and coaching, and the results speak for themselves.”

The Green Knights have won eight Midwest Conference championships under Purtill’s watch and have appeared in seven NCAA Division III playoffs.

“Coach Purtill invests great time and energy to ensure that student-athletes understand their role in the classroom and on the field before they even step on campus,” says Bridget Krage O’Connor ’93 (Enrollment Management and Communications). “I am grateful for his tireless efforts to partner with the office of admission to bring in strong student-athletes, and equally as pleased with his commitment to ensure they persist and succeed in all aspects of their college experience.”

More than just a trophy, the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award provides each winning coach with $50,000 to donate to one or more charitable organizations of his or her choice and a $20,000 grant to donate to his school’s alumni association to enhance student scholarships and activities.

Vote early and often on the Coach of the Year web site. Unlike the presidential election, this is a contest where repeat votes are encouraged – fans can vote once a day through Dec. 6. And , if you have the chance to add a nice remark or two as you vote, it will help Purtill's candidacy if he makes it to the final phase of the contest.
