The sounds of Christmas come to both campus and abbey this weekend
This weekend brings both a first-ever Brass and Organ Christmas Spectacular, presented at St. Norbert Abbey, and the annual Festival of Christmas, on campus.
The Brass and Organ Christmas Spectacular, on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m., will feature a brass quintet and an organ. Among the musicians are faculty members Eric High (trombone) and Linda Cook (trumpet).
“We decided to have the concert at the abbey because of its spectacular organ and the beautiful resonance that the room provides. It should be an incredible location for the brass and organ music. Plus, it seems fitting for the Christmas season,” says High.
The Festival of Christmas concert this Friday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m., is a perennial favorite and, according to High, the largest college concert of the year. Some 150 students are involved in the performance.
“It will begin with the SNC Concert Band, followed by the SNC Wind Ensemble,” says High. “After a short break, the Men’s Chorus, Women’s Chorus and Chamber Singers will all sing. In between all of the large groups, there will be holiday readings by special guests and some Christmas carol-singing with audience participation.”
After the concert, which will take place in the Walter Theatre, a dessert reception will follow in the Sensenbrenner Memorial Union.
