Conference draws big-name speakers
Bud Selig, Major League Baseball commissioner and former owner of the Milwaukee Brewers, will keynote “A Mirror of Our Culture: Sport and Society in America.” This national conference, set for May 22-24, 2012, will be hosted jointly by the college and the Green Bay Packers.
Selig is joined by a slate of eminent speakers headlined by George Bodenheimer, executive chairman of ESPN Inc.
“We are extremely excited to have Bud Selig and George Bodenheimer, two giants in the sports industry, as speakers,” says conference director Kevin Quinn (Economics). “Sport and Society will bring together academics who study sport from many different disciplinary perspectives, with sports professionals from around the country.”
Selig will speak on May 23. His talk is open to the public. Advance registration is required and will be available online beginning Feb. 1, 2012.
This is the second conference of its kind put on by St. Norbert and the Packers. The first was held in 2010.
“St. Norbert College is proud of its relationship with the Green Bay Packers, and this unique conference is another way to showcase that partnership,” Quinn says.
The Packers have held their summer training camp at the college for 54 years, the longest such relationship between an NFL team and a college.
More information on the conference is available on the Sport and Society conference website.
