The 2007-08 school year has started strong. We kicked off with our welcome reception for students of color on Aug. 27 in the Hendrickson Dining Room. The event’s goal: to unite our students and allow them to network and build relationships with faculty and staff.
Our second big event was Asian Celebration, held Oct. 16-18, which featured a talent show, craft night and fashion show, along with a small reception offering various Asian foods to sample. The successful celebration had equal participation from students, faculty, staff and community members.
In November, we celebrated Native American Heritage Month with great performances by Ballet Folklorico “Citlalli-Alma de Mexico,” Native American dancers featuring Duck Creek Crossing Singers and Native American flute player Darrin Thompson.
An exciting new initiative this year is our Professional Mentoring Program (PMP), designed to provide students of color the opportunity to create a personal connection with a staff or faculty member who can guide them through their college career. The main goal of the program is to minimize or remove the potential isolation and loneliness that students of color often experience.
All events are open to the public. For more information, please contact
