Emerging Leaders

Designed for incoming students at St. Norbert College, the Emerging Leaders program teaches participants about leadership theory, time management and goal setting while influencing students to start making a difference as campus and community leaders.
The program kicks off with a fall weekend retreat to encourage team-building and networking. Next is a series of leadership workshops, small group meetings, service projects and an on-campus effort in which small groups of Emerging Leaders work side by side with experienced campus leaders to plan and complete College or community initiatives. Throughout the entire experience, participants keep a reflection binder to track their progress. Opportunities such as the Apprenticeship Program, internships and student organization leadership positions often follow for program graduates.
St. Norbert College received a grant this year from the C. Charles Jackson Foundation to expand the Emerging Leaders program. It now includes a residential living/learning option in Burke Hall, further challenging students to get involved.
This year’s program, consisting of 48 motivated new students and 15 upperclass project leaders, is well underway. Projects of the current Emerging Leaders include Make a Difference Day, Homecoming Dance, Community Involvement Fair, Knight Rider, International Education Week, Wisconsin United Residence Hall Association Conference, Up ’til Dawn, Advent Candle, Shack-a-Thon, Poverty Simulation, Zambia Project, Special Olympics, Environmental Empowerment and Winter Wonder Week. The program will wrap up shortly after spring break with a celebration and reflection on this year’s experience.
