Spring 2008
Senior Wine-Tasting 2008
Mike Kelly '08, Intern - Alumni and Parent Relations
This spring I was privileged enough to attend and be part of the planning committee for the Alumni and Parent Relations third annual Senior Wine-Tasting event. You may think to yourself: Is this just an excuse to drink? What are the benefits of this event?
The actual purpose of this event is to achieve something the alumni office stresses time and again—the importance of networking. I have interned at the alumni office since my sophomore year, and I have seen first-hand how valuable a resource alumni can be.
To facilitate networking at the wine-tasting event, an alum hosts each student table and provides guidance on proper wine etiquette. Through this informal setting, seniors are able to ask questions of alums and gain a new perspective about how their careers can evolve.
As a senior still trying to decide my post-college plans it was very helpful to hear about past experiences, and realize there is light at the end of the tunnel. In addition, I was able to exchange my contact information with numerous alumni, who have encouraged me to stay in touch concerning jobs. The event made me realize how open and willing the alumni of St. Norbert College are to help current students. It also made me realize how important it is to keep a strong relationship with St. Norbert College after graduation.
As I reflect on my four years, Senior Wine-Tasting was the perfect way for me to begin thinking about life after St. Norbert College. I’ve come to realize that St. Norbert is a great college, not only because of excellent staff and faculty, but also because of those who have come before me constantly striving to give back to a place that has given them so much.
