Summer 2008
St. Norbert vocabulary for parents Parents, when your student calls home, it may seem like they’re speaking a totally different language. You may find yourself asking them to slow down and explain all the abbreviations and acronyms.
Well, we’re here to help you conquer St. Norbert lingo, a few words at a time!
Luna: Many students and faculty take advantage of the nearby coffee shop, located in downtown De Pere, to meet over a fresh-roasted drink. Whether it’s just to catch up or discuss some upcoming school work, Luna offers the relaxed and comfortable feel of home with the added bonus of a student discount.
Todd: A nickname that St. Norbert students have given to the Todd Wehr Library over the years. Girls often refer to “having a date with Todd,” when referring to spending the night at the library studying or working on projects.
Morning/Afternoon Floater (Class): St. Norbert does not have traditional Monday-Wednesday-Friday, Tuesday-Thursday classes like other schools. The morning floater is a class which is offered Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at three different times; thus, having a “floating” timeframe. The afternoon floater also changes times and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
GS: GS refers to the General Studies program. General Studies courses are required for all students at St. Norbert College. As part of the General Education Program, each student must complete a class in each of the nine areas of study of the lower biennium (freshman/sophomore level courses) and four areas of study of the upper biennium (junior/senior level courses). Each general studies area is referred to by a number, which corresponds to a number 1-12 (e.g. GS8). For more information on General Studies please visit the
Registrar's web site.
