Spring 2009
2009 Junior Knights and Days … Priceless!
Angela Lyons ’10, Office of Alumni and Parent Relations Intern
Junior Knights and Days (JKD) is a special event hosted by the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations for the last seven years, in collaboration with a student-run committee. I had the pleasure to volunteer last year at the event, and absolutely could not wait to attend it when my junior year came along.
However I received quite a surprise when I was asked to be one of the interns to assist in the planning of the weekend. I was honored and also afraid to have so much responsibility. Having seen how well it was run last year, I wanted to make it the best I could for my junior class and our parents. Our committee was made up of 11 remarkable students and our advisor Chris Betcher, assistant director in the alumni office.
The weekend of Junior Knights and Days is such a great chance for juniors to bond with their parents and introduce them to the life they have established here for themselves in the past three years. This is why our JKD committee this year chose the theme from the MasterCard advertising campaign:
Registration fee: $65
Tank of gas: $50
Hotel Room: $99
Making memories at Junior Knights and Days … Priceless!
To us, this slogan really told what Junior Knights and Days is all about. It may cost money to get here, to stay here and to experience the event, but the outcome is well worth the expense it took.
From personal experience, I would have to say Junior Knights and Days weekend was one of the most enjoyable moments I have ever spent with my family. It was great to have them on campus for the whole weekend to experience what daily life here at St. Norbert is like. It was so important to introduce them to a portion of my life they have never really had the chance to be a part of. There are so many relationships and bonds I have created here in my three years at St. Norbert College, and finally the two most important people in my life got the chance to meet, experience and become a part of this.
I can personally say that Junior Knights and Days has forever strengthened the bond that my parents and I have together. I think it is very important for all families to have the chance to attend Junior Knights and Days in the future.
