Discipline: Communication and Media Studies
How long have you taught at St. Norbert College? What drew you to the campus?
I have taught at St. Norbert since 2004. I was well-liked and tenured at my previous position, but I wanted to transfer to a Catholic institution. The environment of a Catholic college means a lot to me.
What books have you written?
Intercultural Communication: A contextual Approach, Communication Theory: Applications and Case Studies, Replication Studies in the Social Science, Replication Studies in the Social Sciences II.
What is your favorite book?
The Selfish Gene, by Richard Dawkins
Favorite Movie?
Becket
What are your hobbies or interests besides teaching?
I love anything and everything about cooking and preparing a good meal, I would rather cook my own meal than go out eat. I love the aspect of putting the whole thing together and sitting down and enjoying it.
People don't know that ...
my book is a best seller, and that my jokes, even though people don't act like it, are really that funny!
Describe a favorite classroom experience
I really do enjoy when a former student contacts me to let me know they are applying the knowledge I have shared with them in class. Another thing I enjoy is watching as 18-year-olds turn into adults during their years here at St. Norbert College.
What would you most like students to learn from your classes?
To become a competent interactant. To be competent at sending and receiving messages. It is that simple and that hard.
What is your favorite aspect of teaching?
I love to be around the students who are trying to make good decisions and start their lives out. It is always stimulating, and exciting to see how they grow and learn. I enjoy the conversations and interactions I have with students; they seem to have more depth than your typical conversation.
