Byron L. Walter Theatre

Walter Theatre History

The Byron L. Walter Theatre was born when the Abbot Pennings Hall of Fine Arts laid its foundation on the campus of St. Norbert College in 1955.  Byron L Walter (1877-1954) was an early Green Bay businessman, and he operated the Green Bay Hardware, Inc. until his retirement in 1953.  He was co-founder of the Paper Converting Machine Company, and for a period of time served as president of this company.  Byron Walter contributed generously during his lifetime, and after his death, the Byron L. Walter Family Trust was established to continue his good work.  The Byron L. Walter Family Trust made possible this theatre which is named in his memory.  In 1989, the Walter Theatre underwent a renovation which improved the lobby and interior aesthetic, added more seating and improved the theatre's acoustics.

Walter Theatre   The Walter Theatre is a traditional proscenium theatre and is home to the St. Norbert College Music Department.  The Walter Theatre is handicap accessible.
