ΦΒΔ | Phi Beta Delta: Honor Society for International Scholars The Society Goals Phi Beta Delta's goals are:
History Phi Beta Delta is the first honor society dedicated to recognizing scholarly achievement in international education. The Society was founded at California State University - Long Beach in 1986.
Symbols • PHI (Φ): Philomatheia - Love of knowledge • BETA (Β) : Biotremmonia - Valuing of human life • DELTA (Δ): Diapheren - Achieving excellence The colors of the Society are red and gold, symbolizing the strength of humankind and the energy of the sun from which all cultures draw strength and life. The crest is presented in the colors of the Society. The globe represents the international perspective of the Society's members. The torch symbolizes the leadership and influence of the Society. The sun illustrates the energy from which all cultures draw strength. The book is representative of the coining and sharing of knowledge. ΕΞ | Epsilon Xi Chapter at St. Norbert College The Epsilon Xi Chapter of Phi Beta Delta formed in the spring semester of 2002 under Dr. Joseph Tullbane, Associate Dean of International Education and Director of the Center for International Education. Through an internship course, student Bridget McCarte worked closely with Sarah Griffiths, Director of International Student and Scholar Services, to bring an international honor society to St. Norbert College. After Bridget graduated, student Leslie LaBonte collaborated with Sarah to have Phi Beta Delta recognized as a St. Norbert College student organization. The founding members were inducted during the 2002-2003 academic year. |
