Professional profile
Connie Tilley begins her 30th year at the helm of the women's basketball program at St. Norbert. But it hasn't been just basketball that has made Tilley one of the most successful coaches of women's sports in Division III athletics. Tilley is also the coach of the men's golf team at St. Norbert and previously coached women's golf, volleyball and softball.
Her career record in all four sports combined is 792-419 for a .654 winning percentage and 17 conference titles. In 50 sports seasons, Tilley's had only five records below .500. In a basketball game at UW-Whitewater 8 years ago, she accomplished the rare feat of coaching in her 1,000th career game.
But it's basketball where she's made the biggest strides. Three seasons ago, Tilley became the 13th coach in Division III history to achieve 400 career wins. She currently has a 450-233 career record and has led St. Norbert to the Midwest Conference playoffs 16 times in 22 seasons in the league.
Tilley has coached St. Norbert to 11 conference titles, seven NCAA Tournament appearances and one Final Four.
In addition, she coached the UW-La Crosse women's tennis team while completing graduate work there--and the team finished 7th in the nation. That’s quite a record for someone whose high school playing career consisted of two games and whose previous coaching experience was two months as assistant basketball coach at Salem High School.
The Beloit native has also served as intramural director, cheerleader advisor and pom pon squad adviser at St. Norbert. |
