Tim Coghlin

Professional profile
To see just how far and how fast the St. Norbert College hockey program has risen under Tim Coghlin, there's no need to look past the first period he ever coached with the Green Knights.

In a 9-2 loss at UW-Superior, Coghlin's squad returned to the locker room for the first intermission trailing 5-0 and being outshot 32-1. The next night, St. Norbert cut that deficit to a 7-4 loss to the Yellowjackets and just two years later, Coghlin's team returned to Superior and earned a win and a tie in a two-game series.

In Coghlin's 13 years, the Green Knights remain in the national spotlight, having earned eight NCAA Division III tournament berths and winning seven Northern Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season titles. Coghlin has also led St. Norbert to five Peters Cup titles and its three NCAA Division III Frozen Four appearances.

The Green Knights have accomplished their success with a combination of offense and defense that has led the NCHA in both categories five times. Before Coghlin arrived, St. Norbert had allowed double figures 18 times. In Coghlin's tenure it has never happened.

Coghlin, 42, was the 1998, 2002, 2005 and 2006 NCHA Coach of the Year and has also served on the NCAA Ice Hockey Rules Committee. He owns a 270-87-29 career record heading in to the 2006-07 season and is no stranger to national success.

He captained UW-Stevens Point's first national championship team in 1989 and was an assistant coach with the Pointers when the won the national title in 1993 and finished runner-up in 1992.

Coghlin was a two-time All-American defenseman and a three-time All-NCHA selection at UW-Stevens Point, where he was recently inducted into the school's athletic Hall of Fame and ranks 12th on the all-time scoring list.

A native of Summerland, British Columbia, Coghlin has a master's degree from UW-Stevens Point in education and a bachelor's degree in communication.

Coghlin was signed by the Vancouver Canucks and played briefly with the 1989 Milwaukee Admirals. He injured his shoulder in training camp the next season and joined the Fife Flyers of the British Premier League as a player and assistant coach.
