Gratzia Villarroel

Professional profile
Dr. Gratzia Villarroel is the Director of International Studies and an Associate Professor of Political Science at St. Norbert College.  

For over ten years, Dr. Villarroel has taught a seminar at the UN headquarters in New York City giving students the opportunity to experience world politics through the work of UN officials and UN diplomats. She also coordinates the Washington Semester Program sponsored by the American University in Washington D.C.  

Dr. Villarroel was selected as the 2007-2008 Santo Domingo Visiting Scholar by the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University. She is currently working on her manuscript: In the Footsteps of Bartolina Sisa: Indigenous Women, Evo Morales, and the Bolivian Social Revolution. She has several publications including, “The United States and the United Nations: Unilateralism in an Era of Globalization” in Globalization Redux (2004), ed. by Conner & Torimoto, “Bolivia: Women's Rights, the International Women's Convention, and State Compliance” in Women's Rights: A Global View (2000) ed. by Lynn Walter, and “Women, Adamocracy and the Bolivian Social Revolution” in Women and Revolution in the Third World (1994) ed. by Mary Ann Tetrault.  

Dr. Villarroel co-led the “Women and Power in Latin America” meeting of the Social Policy Committee of the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University (2007).   She has also presented in the Tuesday Seminar Series sponsored by the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies and the Weatherhead Center for International Studies at Harvard University (2007).
