How to Get to the Diversity Mentor Lounge
The LGBTQ Ally Mentors hold their office hours and potentially other events in the Diversity Mentor Lounge (abbreviated DML) thanks to the generosity of Multicultural Student Services and the Multicultural Student Mentors. We'd like everyone to be able to take advantage of the resources offered by this program, however, the lounge has the simultaneous benefit and disadvantage of being tucked away in a corner of the Campus Center. Here are some directions! Go in the campus center You can go in the lower, accessible entrance too (to the south of the Campus Center, closer to the river), but you'll have to make your way to the third floor near the front without pictures - just follow the text. There is an elevator across the lounge from that entrance, just inside the area marked with the Phil's sign. This way, you can reach your destination without using stairs. The Ray Van Den Heuvel Family Campus Center is located on the Fox River, near Burke Hall. See this campus map to help you find your way. There is no parking in the delivery area adjacent to the Campus Center -- Pay attention to the lot signs to avoid funding Campus Safety :D If needed, official parking information is available from the Parking Office at (920) 403-3948 or the Parking Office Web Site - their annotated map of parking lots [PDF] might also be helpful.
Turn to the left and go up the stairs to the second floor You walk in to a "split-level" landing and have the choice of going down to the first floor lounge or to the left and up to the second floor. Do the latter. If you took the elevator, you'll arrive right at the third floor, and should take a right out of the elevator and go around the corner. Then, pick up these instructions once they reach the third floor.
Go through the door and to the right You'll see the gym ahead of you, the fitness center to your left, and a little balcony and doors to your right. Go right. If you took the elevator, we'll meet you on the third floor - you don't do this step.
Go through the door and up the stairs You only need to go up one more flight - if you go up two, you'll end at a locked door for 4th floor storage space. Exit the stairs through the door, and you'll be facing down the hall.
Look forward and to the left, and enter the Student Organization Resource Room (SORR) It's one of the several doors with a yellow border around the door - and the only one with a glass wall and offices visible inside. For reference purposes, Rainbow Alliance makes a lot of our promotional material here. Also, if you ever need or want access to material in our archives, you'll meet our Archivist or another officer here.
Those of you who took the elevator, you'll be coming from the other side, so the SORR will be on your right.
Inside the SORR, proceed down the hallway to the left While you're there, take a moment to observe our organization listed on the plaque on the right-hand wall. This is for our 2008 organizational award. Here's hoping our name shows up on those plaques again! (There are awards we've won that predate those plaques: take a look into our organizational history.)
The Diversity Mentor Lounge is one of the doors on the right! When a mentor is in, they should have their bright pink LGBTQ Ally Mentor sign displayed. If you'd like to put a face to the name ahead of time, check our Ally Mentor page to get to know them. If you'd like to arrive un-noticed, you can call the office ahead of time or reach the Ally Mentor on AIM: see the LGBTQ Ally Program main page for more info. It's probably polite to knock - but during those office hours, the Ally Mentors are available as resources to you first and foremost, so don't hesitate to take advantage of their knowledge and training!
You made it! Enjoy your talk with an LGBTQ Ally Mentor! Don't forget to complete an evaluation on your way out! |
