Become an LGBTQ Ally Mentor!
Do you want to work toward greater acceptance and understanding of LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning) individuals and be a force for change on the SNC campus? We'd love to work with you! Applications are now open for LGBTQ Ally Mentors. Make sure you have the weekend of November 1-2 (Saturday and Sunday) open in the afternoon from 1p.m. to 5 p.m. in order to participate in our LGBTQ Ally Mentor Workshop. This eight-hour workshop will focus on facilitation and diversity discussion skills, as well as a background in LGBTQ issues. It is being presented by Rainbow Alliance in conjunction with LSE (Leadership Development, Service, and Engagement) and MSS (Multicultural Student Services). No experience is required, just an honest desire to work for diversity and be a visible model of an LGBTQ ally - we'll teach you what you need to know. All students are encouraged to apply, whether straight or LGBTQ - we will not ask you your sexual orientation or gender identity. Once trained, you will be responsible for presenting and further developing the LGBTQ Ally Training Sessions throughout the rest of the school year - a couple of hours a month. All LGBTQ Ally Training Sessions are led by a team of 2-3 LGBTQ Ally Mentors. The application is incredibly simple, and must be completed before Wednesday, October 29 at 10 p.m. If you've been chosen to attend the workshop and become a mentor, you will be notified Thursday, October 30. Note: A small fee (around $5-10, no more) will be required to cover the cost of your t-shirt. You must be able to attend the workshop to become an LGBTQ Ally Mentor.
