Acronyms and Abbrevs.

For newcomers to Rainbow Alliance, our terminology can sometimes be a little bit overwhelming or unfamiliar.  First, take a look at the general Terms and Symbols page, then come back here for some organization-specific terms.  Don't worry, we'll wait here.

Rainbow Alliance-specific

Some abbreviations or acronyms, especially those which refer to events, are used primarily within Rainbow Alliance.  More information on these events can be found on the Events page.  Some of these short-form names are:

  • Ally Training - short for LGBTQ Ally Training Sessions
  • Ally Mentor or simply Mentor - short for LGBTQ Ally Mentor
  • Ally Mentor Workshop - short for LGBTQ Ally Mentor Workshop
  • Ally Program - short for LGBTQ Ally Program
  • BDW - Burke Diversity Week
  • BW or B+W - Boxes and Walls diversity immersion experience
  • CBD - Celebrate Bisexuality Day
  • DML - Diversity Mentor Lounge (the site for our LGBTQ Ally Mentor Office Hours)
  • DOS/DoS - Day of Silence (nationally observed, part of our WoA)
  • fb or FB - Facebook - for instance, our group or our events on it.
  • NCOD - National Coming Out Day
  • PARE - a model for intentional programming that we use to plan and review events ("Prepare, Act, Reflect, Evaluate") - the word PARE alone is often used to refer to our brief write-ups on each step of that process after the conclusion of an event.
  • TDOR/TDoR - Transgender Day of Remembrance
  • SOS - Significant Other Soiree
  • WOA/WoA - Week of Awareness (including national Day of Silence [DoS])
  • WPCID - Wisconsin Private Colleges Institute for Diversity (annual conference)

St. Norbert College organizations in general

While Rainbow Alliance uses these acronyms, we're not likely the only ones to do so.

  • GKAR - Green Knight Annual Report (a required filing each year to maintain our group status)
  • LSE - Department of Leadership Development, Service, and Engagement
  • MSS - Multicultural Student Services (linked with LSE)
  • PJC - Peace and Justice Center
  • REH - Residential Education and Housing
  • SAF or SAFAC - Student Activity Fee [Allocations Committee] - the source of our primary operating and programming budget each year (through an annual allocation and special allocations as needed.)
  • WC - Women's Center

Did we miss some?

Of course we probably did.  Just let us know.
