Campus Departments and Organizations
-
Office of Cultural Diversity - In the LSI Suite (Campus Center 330), Cultural Diversity provides support for all diversity students on campus, including LGBTQ students. They can also refer individuals to other resources.
-
Counseling Center - The professional staff members at the Counseling Center are confidential and free to all St. Norbert College students. The office is considered a "safe zone" [source:
Counseling Center Sexual Orientation page]
-
Residential Life - Staff members of Residential Life are sensitive to the concerns of LGBTQ individuals on campus in the residence halls, and can provide assistance in resolving roommate conflicts. Resident Assistants and Hall Directors annually participate in a
Safe Zone Ally Training Session and many choose to sign the Ally Pledge: look for the diamond-shaped Safe Zone sign on your RA's door.
-
Rainbow Alliance - This student organization has open meetings, a friendly membership, and a positive, diverse environment for LGBTQ students and allies. All students are welcome to attend, and we will never ask anyone to "out" themselves or participate beyond their personal comfort level.
Gender-Blind Facilities
Most gender-blind facilities on campus are in residence halls and labeled as "guest" facilities. Single-occupancy bathrooms have locking doors.
In addition to specific "guest" facilities, upper class residence halls (
Mary Minahan McCormick,
Victor McCormick,
Michels) are "co-ed by suite," in which residents select one to seven students listed as the same gender in college records. These residences have private/semi-private bathroom and shower areas shared by residents of that suite (one larger residence hall room or two rooms connected by shared facilities). The apartments in Vander Zanden Hall, Riverside South, and the Carriage House, as well as the Townhouses, have semi-private bathroom and shower facilities shared by the residents of a housing unit. For more information on housing options, please visit the
Office of Residential Life.
