EDUC 589A - Language and Literacy for All Children (3 credits)

Invites teachers to reflect on the effectiveness of the materials and methods they currently use to teach children language and literacy. Challenges teachers to bring new life to language and literacy programs and practices to ensure every child*s growth and success. Supports teachers in planning and implementing the best practices in language and literacy for their unique classroom environment and their students* interests and needs. Innovative 3-week schedule will provide opportunities for class meetings at each school of enrolled teachers as well as preservice teacher collaboration in language and literacy projects.

EDUC 589B - Instructional Technology (3 credits)

In this hands-on, project-centered exploration, the participants will develop a standards-based unit plan designed around an interdisciplinary topic that incorporates multiple technology-based learning objects. Participants will have the opportunity to enhance their curricular and instructional knowledge as they develop skills with video cameras, digital cameras, audio and video editing software, GPS units, Palm handhelds and online discussion boards. Be prepared to bring a map, an open mind and a creative spirit as we traverse the Green Bay/De Pere area and probe the depths of emerging technologies as it pertains to your passion for teaching. No previous experience with these technologies is needed for this course.

EDUC 589C - Teaching Diverse Perspectives with Children’s Literature (3 credits)

This course is designed to provide classroom teachers with a background in children*s literature (pre-K to young adult) focusing on diverse perspectives. Teachers will learn how to evaluate children*s literature for authenticity in order to make appropriate choices. They will research a variety of diverse perspectives so they can teach from a standpoint of understanding. Teachers will also develop strategies for integrating multicultural literature in their curriculum.
