Living/Learning Residential Opportunities

Communio
Requirement of residents of Bergstrom Hall
Communio, a living/learning course that will provide first-year students living in Bergstrom Hall a common experience that emphasizes the college’s three core traditions—liberal arts, Catholic and Norbertine—and appeals to students of all faiths. This course is an opportunity for discovery, leading residents to learn more about themselves and their place in the world while helping ease them into college life.

Three Ships program
Requirement of residents of Michels Hall
Three ships is a program based on community service for sophomores, juniors and seniors living in Michels Hall. The program encourages residents who live together to focus on scholarship, citizenship and leadership. Students identify an issue that is important to them and work together to address the issue over the course of an academic year. Three ships is designed to help students understand the value of a life-long commitment to service.

Substance-free floor

Available to residents of Mary Minahan McCormick Hall
Sophomore, junior and senior residents can make a commitment to live substance-free in an environment without alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs in MMM. The hope is to create a comfortable, safe and close-knit community free from the pressures associated with substances. If you are interested in the substance-free housing option please download the Substance-free Housing application (PDF).

Host program
Available to residents of VMC, the Carriage House, Riverside and Vander Zanden apartments and MMM
The host program is an opportunity for traditional St. Norbert students to act as a host for a new international or English as a second language (ESL) student. At St. Norbert we have committed to working with all international and ESL students to make them feel welcome on campus and create opportunities for both traditional students and international students to learn about cultural differences. This program is offered to sophomores, juniors and seniors.

Study abroad program housing
Participate in SHOP for a limited number of bedrooms in Vander Zanden apartments that have been set aside for study abroad students.  These bedrooms are reserved by using the study abroad student’s SHOP number.   The bedrooms will be filled in pairs of two with students that will both be on campus for the same semester.
Please remember that the limited number of Vander Zanden apartments are reserved for one semester.
Students must move out at the end of the semester
.

The Spanish house
The Spanish house is offered to junior and senior students who have reached more advanced levels of Spanish study. The house is located in the residential area near campus surrounded by other college-owned student houses. The Spanish house gives residents the unique opportunity to use and improve their Spanish language skills daily. Residents have the responsibility to plan and execute cultural events for the college community.

A Spanish teaching assistant and a visiting student from a Spanish-speaking country, will also live in the house. The teaching assistant can provide residents with language assistance and the opportunity to exchange unique cultural experiences.
Students apply to live in the Spanish house for one or two semesters and preference is given to those preparing to study abroad or those who have just returned from a Spanish-speaking country.

Merit Housing

Townhouses 9-14
Six townhouses are designated for Merit Housing. Merit Housing is a program that provides preferred housing to juniors and seniors who have exhibited superior academic performance. Students are required to apply in groups of six. Merit Housing will be awarded by calculating the average GPA of the top five students in the group (the lowest or an unverifiable GPA will be dismissed). The six groups with the top average GPAs will be awarded one of the available merit designated townhouses.
