Loft Rental Information
The St. Norbert College Office of Residential Life has teamed up with
Campus Lofts, Inc. to bring students, their families, and friends a simple solution to lofting!
Students are now able to rent lofts from Campus Lofts, Inc. Available as single bed lofts, these lofts can be modified into the "L-shaped" design that is popular in several buildings on campus. But be sure to discuss with your roommate any plans for lofting prior to moving in, especially those living in Burke and Bergstrom where your beds are bunkable!
To access the St. Norbert College portion of the Campus Lofts, Inc. web page, use the code DV9L. More information will be distributed in housing assignment letters and at orientation. Also watch for futon purchase information! If you have questions during the academic year, please email us at loftcoordinator@snc.edu.
Office of Residential Life
In an effort to promote creative and individualized living environments and also to provide for the safety of students and college property, the following guidelines have been established by the staff members of the Facilities Department and the Office of Residential Life. Effective August 1st 2009: No personal lofts or bunk structures will be permitted in college-owned housing. A. Residents choosing to use a rented loft structure must register the structure with their Residence Hall Director. A registration form and a statement indicating that the college is not responsible for any injury to persons or property resulting from structural failure must be completed and signed by the residents. Forms are available from the Residence Hall Director. B. The structure must be free-standing and may not be secured to the walls, the floor the ceiling or any college-owned furniture. (This includes the bed) C. Decks are not permitted. Students may not have a structure in which they are sleeping under a surface upon which furniture is placed. D. Beds may not be stacked on desks, dressers, or any other furniture. E. All college furniture must remain in the room to which it is assigned. Storage is not provided for any part of the bed or for room furnishings. F. All rented lofts and college-provided structures must be assembled to include the frame of the St. Norbert College bed. G. All rented lofts must be assembled by the first Tuesday following the commencement of classes each semester. H. The top of the loft must be 36” from the ceiling or low enough that a student can sit up when on the loft. I. There is a $100 fine and/or disciplinary action for any violation of these guidelines. This includes failure to register a rented loft structure and failure to remove or dismantle a loft structure upon withdrawal from college housing. Failure to make necessary modifications within the allotted time period as recommended by the Residential Life staff member who inspects the loft/college-provided structure results in immediate removal of the loft/college-provided structure by the residents occupying the room found in violation of the policy. Special Structure Limitations Are: 1. When assembling lofts/college-provided structures, the access way to the door must be of such dimensions as not to impede exiting the building or room. 2. Lofts must include rails for any side not flush with a wall. Extra rails must be rented through Campus Lofts, Inc. by the renter of said loft.
The college takes no responsibility for the student’s safety while the loft/college-provided structures are in the room; however, the right to inspect all student construction is reserved.
