The end of the semester is quickly approaching and finals are almost upon us. We, therefore, ask each resident to make an extra effort to adhere to intensive study hours 22 hours a day. Final exams will be from Monday, May 5 to Friday, May 9. In an effort to aid each and every student, 22 hour intensive study hours will be in effect for all residence halls and upper-class housing units from midnight on Friday, May 2 until 11 a.m. Friday, May 9. A relaxed period will occur each day from 5-7 p.m. each day during the intensive study hour period.

Judicial sanctions will be issued to any students who violate quiet hours, etc.
Room Inspection/Check Out Procedures
|
All residents must check out of their housing assignment with their RA or housing intern. It is the student's responsibility to pre-arrange a time 24 hours in advance with their RA or Intern to properly check out.
The purpose of this check-out is to ensure that the room has been cleaned, all personal property removed and to complete an initial assessment of the room condition. Residents must be present at this time to go over the Room Condition Report (RCR). If damage has occurred in the living area, it is the responsibility of the resident(s) to inform the RA or intern who is responsible for the damages. If this does not occur, all residents will be billed.
Any student who doesn't properly check out of their residence will be charged a non-refundable $75. To check out properly you must arrange a check out time with a Res Life staff member, have the staff member check your room, sign the RCR, and turn in all keys at the time of inspection.
Please note that this is a preliminary check-out and not the final inspection. The hall director and a Facilities department staff member will be completing a thorough final inspection of each room and area after closing. Additional charges may be assessed at that time and billed to the residents.
Your Room at Checkout
|
The condition of your residence should be the same as when residents checked in at the beginning of the year. All furniture (beds, desks, chairs, mattresses, etc.) should be in the room and must be placed back in the same location where they appeared at the time of check-in or the resident will be charged accordingly. Beds must be assembled.
An excessive cleaning fee will be charged for the removal of waste materials, posters, ceiling stars, adhesive residue, and decals from the walls/ceiling. Damage from writing and painting on the walls or doors will also be assessed.
Students are responsible for completing the following items before checking out of the room:
- Return rented St. Norbert lofts.
- Make an appointment with your RA/intern to check out.
- Vacuum the carpet, sweep and wet mop the tile floor.
- Damp sponge the inside of the closet and drawers of the dresser and desk.
- Sponge wash counter tops, dressers and desks.
- Wash all window sills and insides of the windows.
- If there is a sink or bathroom: Clean the shower and sink with cleanser; Sweep and wet mop the floor; Clean the toilet with a bowl cleaner.
- Remove glue, tape, poster putty and any residue from the floors, ceiling, and walls. All ceiling stars need to be removed.
- Beds should be reassembled with proper nuts and bolts. Personal lofts and bunks must be down prior to May 2 at 7 p.m. No on campus storage will be available for those with personal lofts. All bunkable St. Norbert beds need to be bunked by the residents.
- Clean out and wash all recycling/garbage bins.
- Close and lock windows and doors after leaving.
- Place phone back in its original location.
Students are responsible for complying with the above stated standards. Residents will also receive a more detailed cleaning list from their RA or housing intern. If the room/area does not meet these standards upon inspection, the student or students will not be approved to check out.
Extra cleaning charges required for a specific room/area will be billed to the residents. Cleaning charges have ranged from $75- $250 per person. However, the expectation is that the room/area is thoroughly cleaned so that there is no need for extra cleaning charges.

All suite mailbox keys need to be returned directly to the Mail Center at the time of departure for students permanently leaving St. Norbert. Common Area Damages
|
When damages occur in the common areas of a hall where it is unknown which individual(s) did the actual damage, all residents living in that particular hall are charged the cost of the damages by dividing the total amount by the number of residents living in the hall.
Common area damages can also be assessed for individual floors or wings. Charges for damages will be assessed at the end of the academic year and will be indicated on the room damage bill.
Residential Life is encouraging students to contact their RA, intern, or hall director with any known room or hall damages in their living area before finals week.
An inspection of the damaged item can be completed before finals week to determine who is responsible for the repair or replacement charge. In some cases, the damage has already been indicated on the Room Condition Report (RCR) at check-in or reported during the academic year to not be the student's responsibility.
For damages that are not on the RCR, it is important to identify the individual(s) responsible for damages at this time. Otherwise, all roommates or residents of a hall/room will be charged for the damages after hall closing.
The final inspection of the room or living area will still be conducted after the halls and upperclass areas close in May.
