What can I do with a degree in sociology? The new generation of students should understand two important facts about their collective future. First, the average young person today will change careers 4 times during his or her working life. Second, well over half of the graduates of quality four-year institutions will find that post-graduate training (either a master's degree or a technical certification) will be essential to the achievement of their goals. In sociology, we endeavor to furnish a broad foundation for range of career plans and prepare students for the further education and training which will likely be a part of those plans. Over the years, most of our students have gone into businesses (banking, insurance, manufacturing, sales, personnel, marketing research) or human services (social work, school or shelter or family counseling or vocational training). Others have become teachers and professors, entered the law in one of several capacities, served the church as priests, ministers, youth or parish education coordinators, become reporters or any of many other professions. The discipline of sociology is a beginning, rather than an end, to your professional development. - |
