Sociology Mission

The discipline’s mission is to contribute to students’ opportunities to become cultivated women and men in the broadest sense, and particularly to their opportunities to gain a mature understanding of the beliefs, customs, arts and institutions of humanity, of the ways that order and change proceed in society and culture, and of the contradictions which fragment communities, societies and cultures and impact the development of humanity.

Alumna Profile

Carie Goral ’99 directs Wisconsin Campus Compact’s AmeriCorps VISTA Service Learning Project. In the role, she recruits and supports 35 VISTA volunteers statewide and provides outreach to community organizations and K-12 and post-secondary students, faculty and staff, helping them promote and develop service-learning and civic engagement activities.
