Carl Vogel is an experienced, entrepreneurial executive with over 30 years of increasing responsibility across the cable television, satellite, telecom and content sectors in the United States. Mr. Vogel’s served as Vice Chairman and President of the nation’s second largest satellite broadcaster, Dish Network as well as President and CEO of the nation’s third largest cable television company, Charter Communications. Mr. Vogel has close personal relationships with the top leaders in the media and entertainment sectors in North America and has a long track record of innovation, leadership and success.
Currently, Mr. Vogel is a private investor and President of Bulldog Capital Partners, Inc. which provides advisory services and strategic consulting for media companies, professional sports teams and certain media telecom focused investment funds and banks. Through Bulldog Capital, Mr. Vogel is a Senior Advisor to The Gores Group based in Los Angeles and Lake Capital of Chicago. In addition, Mr. Vogel is a member of the Board of Directors of Dish Network (DISH;NASDAQ), Shaw Communications (SJR;NYSE), Ascent Capital Corporation (ASCMA:NASDAQ), ION Media Networks, Nextwave Wireless (WAVE;NASDAQ), Sirius/XM Radio Inc. (SIRI:NASDAQ) and Universal Electronics Corporation (UEIC;NASDAQ). Mr. Vogel is a member of the audit committees of Shaw, Ascent Capital and Universal Electronics as well as the Chairman of the Audit Committee of Nextwave Wireless. Mr. Vogel is a member of Sirius/XM’s compensation committee. Mr. Vogel is also Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of Ascent Capital.
While serving as Vice Chairman of Dish Network and EchoStar Communications Corporation from June of 2005 through March of 2009, Mr. Vogel was responsible for all strategic matters, investments, media and advertising sales, corporate development, treasury, programming acquisition and negotiation of affiliate agreements as well as being a member of each company’s executive committee. Mr. Vogel was also the President of Dish Network from February 2006 to February 2008. Mr. Vogel originally joined EchoStar Communications in March of 1994 and was a co-founder of Dish Network, which was created in 1994 to develop EchoStar direct broadcasting business which today serves over 14 million customers nationwide.
From October 2001 to January 2005, Mr. Vogel served as President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of Charter Communications where he led the refinancing of over $12 billion in debt securities while reorganizing the entire operation for greater efficiency as well as introducing voice, digital and high definition video and high speed internet services. During Mr. Vogel’s tenure, Charter was the third largest cable television operator in the United States serving over 6 million customers in 40 states. In 2004, Mr. Vogel was recognized for his achievements being named CEO of the Year by Cable Fax Magazine. Prior to joining Charter, Mr. Vogel held a number of senior level positions at Liberty Media Corporation, Shaw Communications and Jones Intercable.
In 1979, Mr. Vogel graduated from St. Norbert College with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in finance and accounting. Mr. Vogel was recognized as the Distinguished Alumni in Business in July 2002. Mr. Vogel played baseball for St. Norbert from 1975 to 1979 earning all conference honors from the Wisconsin Independent Conference of Athletics (WICA) in the 1978 season. Mr. Vogel and his wife Carol live in Cherry Hills Village, Colorado and the parents of five grown children. |
