What is "A Mirror of our Culture: Sport and Society in America?"
This is a conference of sports academics and professionals working in sports-related fields to network and to share their expertise about American sports. It is co-sponsored by St. Norbert College and the Green Bay Packers.
What is the conference?
The goal of the "A Mirror of our Culture: Sport and Society in America" conference is to create a distinctive, intimate, and affordable three-day event that provides opportunities for sports academics and professionals working in sports-related fields to network and to share their expertise about American sports.
When and where is the conference?
"A Mirror of our Culture: Sport and Society in America" will held from May 26-28, 2010 at both St. Norbert College in De Pere, WI and at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI.
What will the conference include?
The conference schedule will feature prominent names in the world of sports providing major addresses on “Sport in America Society”, “The Future of American Sports", "Modern College Athletics: A View from the Top", and "Race and Sports in America;” concurrent sessions and roundtable discussions at which academics and practitioners will be able to listen to and to give papers and presentations on a wide range topics related to American sports; a gallery exhibition of the finest American sports photography; and a juried festival of sports-themed films and videos. >>MORE
What topics will be included in the concurrent sessions?
We are soliciting paper/presentation abstracts from for consideration
for inclusion in the concurrent sessions. Any topic related to sports

Who should submit sports photography and films?
We are seeking participation by sports academics and professionals
working in sports-related fields. We are currently accepting submissions for the National Sports
Photography Exhibition and the Juried Film Festival at the Sport and
Society conference. Please view the details below for further

Will you be publishing proceedings from the conference?
Yes. It is our intention to publish a Conference Proceedings following the conference. Presenters who would like to have their work considered for inclusion will be asked to submit their papers to the peer review process. Formal instructions will be part of the registration packet distributed prior to the conference.
Who are the keynote speakers?
Paul Tagliabue, former Commissioner (CEO) of the National Football League, Carl Vogel, Partner at SCP Worldwide, Robert Kustra, President, Boise State University, and Kevin Blackistone, Panelist, ESPN's "Around the Horn" Shirley Povich Chair in Sports Journalism, Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, will be the keynote speakers for the "A Mirror of our Culture: Sport and Society in America" conference.

How do I register?
Participants can register online, Conference registration is now open and closes on or before April 1, 2010. >>MORE
What are the registration fees?
The conference registration fee of $275 will include: a dinner and photography exhibit and film festival awards for all attendees in the Legends Club Area at Lambeau Field, three days of luncheons, several daily coffee breaks, a guided tour of Lambeau Field, admission to the Packers Hall of Fame, access to the keynote addresses, all concurrent and roundtable sessions, and admission to photography gallery and all film/video showings. >>MORE
Is single-day registration possible?
Yes, the single-day registration fees are $150 for Day One only, $180 for Day Two only, and $100 for Day Three Only. The single-day fees include access to all the meals, breaks, tours, speakers, and meetings scheduled for that day.
Are registration discounts available?
No discounts or group rates are available for this conference. The conference price has been set to keep it affordable for all attendees.
Do we need to register early?
To maintain an intimate atmosphere, total registration at the conference will be limited to 300 on a first come, first served basis. We recommend registering early. Preference will be given to those giving papers and presentations. Single-day conference registration is also available, space permitting.
Do you provide refunds if I register and cannot attend?
Registered conference participants may cancel their registration 30
days in advance of the "A Mirror of our Culture: Sport and Society in
America" conference for a full refund. Conference cancellations must be in writing. No phone calls will be accepted.
Is your credit card system secure?
Credit card and registration information handled by St. Norbert College is transmitted securely.

Where can I find lodging information?
Accommodations must be made independently by each individual. There are many hotels located in the De Pere and Green Bay areas. A list of conference hotels will be available on this web site. Limited campus housing is available as a more affordable option for conference participants. Campus housing reservations will be made on a first come, first served basis.
Do you have official conference hotels?
The Kress Inn, located on the St. Norbert College campus, is the official hotel of the "A Mirror of our Culture: Sport and Society in America" conference.
Do I have to stay in the official hotel(s)?

Transportation to and from the conference is on your own. The greater Green Bay area is served by several airlines flying into and out of Austin Straubel International Airport, which is six miles from St. Norbert College and seven miles from Lambeau Field.

Can the conference accommodate my food allergies?
Yes, we are happy to accommodate any special dietary restrictions you may have. Please note this on your registration form under your meal selections.
How do I get on your mailing list?
Once you've attended the conference, you are automatically included on the mailing list for future conference notifications.
Do you offer continuing education credits?
No, continuing education credits are not offered through the conference.
