Student Affairs Core Competencies

Student learning is a major component of the college experience. Student Affairs believes this learning occurs both in and outside of the classroom. The core competencies were developed as a means to assess the learning that occurs outside of the classroom and ultimately to strengthen a comprehensive living, learning community. 

Change yourself
  • Engage in self-understanding in order to develop meaningful personal goals.
    • Students will value the identification and achievement of personal goals.
    • Students will develop a series of goal to achieve in a set period of time.

  • Explore the role of spirituality in one’s own life.
    • Students will learn to set aside time for the intentional cultivation of their personal spirituality.

  • Practice effective communication.
    • Students will know how to communicate assertively with civility and respect.
    • Students will know how to listen with understanding.

  • Engage in activities that enhance physical, psychological and emotional health.
