Student Safety

St. Norbert College and the Student Affairs are committed to ensuring the safety of students and the entire college community. Significant enhancements have been made in campus safety to ensure the ongoing well-being of students, faculty and staff and are described in detail below.

Campus Safety Department
With a combined philosophy of service and prevention, the St. Norbert College Campus Safety department is dedicated to maintaining a safe environment conducive to living, learning and working at St. Norbert College. The department is staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Its five full-time professional staff are supplemented by a student staff of officers and dispatchers. Campus Safety maintains an excellent working relationship with the De Pere Police Department.

Campus Emergency Notification System
In an effort to consistently improve emergency response procedures, St. Norbert has implemented a campus emergency notification system which allows the college to send time-sensitive notifications via voice, e-mail and text messaging. The campus emergency notification system will help provide a safer environment, enhanced emergency communication and will keep St. Norbert students, staff and faculty better informed.

Emergency notifications will be limited to such things as severe weather alerts, emergency building concerns, intruders or potential pandemics. To find out more about the campus emergency notification system visit the Campus Safety web site.

Campus Patrols
Regular patrols are conducted around the clock through all campus buildings, parking lots and common areas. Particular attention is paid to residence hall facilities and areas where a high amount of activity takes place such as computer labs, intramural fields, and classroom buildings. Officers communicate via two-way radio and mobile phone to document patrols and identify problems.

Code Blue Phones
Seven outdoor telephones provide instant access to Campus Safety staff day or night throughout the year. Upon receipt of a call, Campus Safety staff will respond immediately. When used, each Code blue phone will activate a flashing blue light on top of its pole to alert passersby of an urgent situation.

Safety Escorts
Safety is a primary concern of St. Norbert College Campus Safety. Should any member of the college community find themselves in an uncomfortable situation, Campus Safety will provide free safety escorts on and near campus.

Vehicle Assistance
Campus Safety provides assistance with jump starting dead batteries. The phone numbers of local businesses who offer towing and/or auto-lock out services are available.

Crime Prevention Presentations
A wide variety of safety related and crime prevention programming is available to the college community. The programs include: Sexual Assault Prevention, Streetwise and Safe, Personal Safety/Self Defense, Pepper Spray, Apartment Living/Home Security, Travel Safety, and Preventing Identity Theft.

Surveillance Cameras
Campus Safety relies on surveillance cameras to assist in the safety and security of the campus. There are currently a number of cameras viewing building and parking lots. Although these cameras are not monitored 24/7, they are recorded.

Clery

Campus security and safety are important issues in postsecondary education today. The Clery Act provides students and families with campus crime statistics and security information. The St. Norbert College Campus Safety Annual Report is available on the campus safety web site.
