The Norbertine Leadership and Service Awards

Student Life Award Nomination

Nominations are CLOSED for 2010.  Thank you for your interest and please check back in January 2011.

The Division of Student Affairs' Norbertine Leadership and Service awards are meant to recognize outstanding student contributions to meaningful change in campus, local, and even national or international communities.  One of the NLS Awards is the Student Life Award, recognizing exemplary student performance in one or more of the division's Change Model competencies, especially those related to impacting or changing the community and world.  A link to a more complete description of the competencies can be found at http://www.snc.edu/studentaffairs/corecompetencies.html.

Please use the rubric below to describe the nominee's contributions over the last 12 months. Comments shared for questions 6 and 7, and the optional upload, may be used in part or in whole during the awards program on April 24, as a means of sharing student successes.

Additional award information:

  • The Student Life Award is based on involvement from February 2009 – January 2010 (for first year students, involvement is based on current academic year only). 
  • Recipients of this award must demonstrate high involvement in campus and community service, awareness of and action in congruence with personal values, and a commitment to making a difference.  
  • The recipients of this award will be evaluated on the Student Affairs Core Competencies: Change Yourself, Change Your Community and Change Your World.
  • Please be as specific and detailed as possible when completing the nomination.

Student demonstrates at least 2 skills related to relationship building: takes responsibility for own actions, manages conflicts and disrespectful behavior, broadens perspectives and references lasting relationships.

In general, student recognizes the importance of a relationship; provides no specifics of how to build a relationship.
Rudimentary
Student has no ability to understand another’s perspective, may blame others for their difficulties, conflicts remain unresolved.

Question 3: Moral Convictions
How well has the student identified and worked to strengthen their own moral convictions?
Exemplary
Student’s actions are routinely ethical and extend to all aspects of life.  would adhere to ethical principles regardless of the potential personal cost.
Competent
Student demonstrates ethical principles through their actions in most situations; recognizes the impact of personal choices; makes adjustments when actions are potentially unethical.
Developing
Student expresses general ethical concepts. They are aware that their actions may impact others, but make no correlation between their actions and ethics.
Rudimentary
Student demonstrates minimal ethical understanding and identifies no correlation between personal choices and effects on others.

Student uses multiple sources of information related to civic issues and gains insight into the background and history of the issues they care about.
