The Norbertine Leadership and Service Awards

Exemplary Leadership Award Nomination

Nomination Deadline is Friday, February 8, 2013

The Division of Mission and Student Affairs' Norbertine Leadership and Service awards are meant to recognize outstanding student contributions to meaningful change in campus, local, and even national or international communities.  The Exemplary Leadership Award recognizes exceptional student performance in one or more of the division's competencies, especially those related to impacting or changing the community and world.

Please use the rubric below to describe the nominee's contributions over the last 12 months. Examples listed for questions 5 and 6, and in the optional letter of recommendation, may be used during the awards program on April 27, 2013 as a means of sharing student successes. This nomination form should only take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Additional award information:

  • The Exemplary Leadership Award is based on involvement from January-December 2012 (for first year students, involvement is based on current academic year only). 
  • Recipients of this award must demonstrate high involvement in campus and community service, awareness of and action in congruence with personal values, and a commitment to making a difference.
  • Please be as specific and detailed as possible when completing the nomination.  Nominations without supporting evidence in questions 5 and 6 will not be considered.

How well does the student understand and appreciate human differences?
Exemplary
Student demonstrates cultural understanding and acceptance by challenging stereotypes and takes action toward inclusion.
Competent
Student indicates appreciation: expresses understanding of own bias, demonstrates sensitivity and respect through actions; challenges stereotypes.
Developing
Student cites importance of human dignity,  but does not express understanding of their own bias;  no actions are identified.
Rudimentary
Student never mentions own bias; gives no indication of acceptance or appreciation of differences.

Competent
Student demonstrates at least 2 skills related to relationship building: takes responsibility for own actions, manages conflicts and disrespectful behavior, broadens perspectives and references lasting relationships.
Developing
In general, student recognizes the importance of a relationship; provides no specifics of how to build a relationship.
Rudimentary
Student has no ability to understand another’s perspective, may blame others for their difficulties, conflicts remain unresolved.

Question 3: Moral Convictions
How well has the student identified and worked to strengthen their own moral convictions?
Exemplary
Student’s actions are routinely ethical and extend to all aspects of life.  would adhere to ethical principles regardless of the potential personal cost.
Competent
Student demonstrates ethical principles through their actions in most situations; recognizes the impact of personal choices; makes adjustments when actions are potentially unethical.
Developing
Student expresses general ethical concepts. They are aware that their actions may impact others, but make no correlation between their actions and ethics.
Rudimentary
Student demonstrates minimal ethical understanding and identifies no correlation between personal choices and effects on others.
