Overview
St. Norbert College partners with CEA Global Education (CEA) to offer students the opportunity to study amongst Czech and international students at Anglo-American University in Prague, Czech Republic. The Czech Republic finds itself at the crossroads of Europe, where East meets West and where history blends with modern European culture. Additionally, the country provides a backdrop for exploring the Norbertine tradition.
Established in 1990, Anglo-American University (AAU) is the oldest private institution of higher education in the Czech Republic. Similar to St. Norbert, AAU prides itself in small, interactive classes. With 700 students from 60 countries, you will take classes in English with both international and Czech students. For more information, view AAU's short YouTube video and SNC Study Abroad's YouTube clip.
Orientation
Upon arrival in Prague, CEA will provide you with a program-specific orientation. The CEA program staff will greet you at the airport and escort you to your apartment. The day following your arrival, your orientation will include: a welcome to the Czech Republic, an overview of CEA's student services, housing information, and an organized tour of Anglo-American University. Additionally, the CEA program staff will lead a city tour of Prague in order to help you get acclimated to your new environment.
Coursework
International faculty members will teach all classes in English to Czech and international students. You will enroll in five courses at three credits each (see the Fall 2012 schedule). Each semester, AAU offers approximately 60 courses, most of which have already been pre-approved for credit transfer. The program is especially strong for business administration, history, political science, and sociology majors; however, the program is not limited to students in these majors. Additional coursework is offered in: accounting, art, communication, economics, English, philosophy, and psychology. Requirements for the General Education Program can also be met.
For students to learn more about Czech and Central European culture, students must enroll in one core elective, such as Prague Art & Architecture, Elementary Czech, or Media Impact in the New Europe, just to name a few.
Accommodations
Escape your residency requirement by living in centrally-located apartments in Prague! CEA will arrange your housing prior to your arrival in Prague. You will be housed in an apartment with 4 to 8 CEA students. Each apartment includes an equipped kitchen, Internet access, bed linens, and towels. The apartments are located no more than thirty minutes from AAU. A transportation pass is included in the program price, meaning that you will bare no additional costs for transportation to and from AAU.
Meals will be the responsibility of the student while in Prague. Each apartment will have a full kitchen, and grocery stores, markets, and restaurants can be found throughout the city. By purchasing food in the community, cooking in your apartment, and dining at local restaurants, you will immerse yourself further in Czech culture. Your Czech language skills will improve and you will learn about the culinary culture of the Czech Republic.
The student support offered by CEA Global Education (CEA), which supplements that of the Study Abroad Office, includes (at no additional cost):
- Pre-departure preparation
- Airport pick-up
- Arrival and departure receptions
- Cultural immersion activities and excursions
- Volunteer and internship opportunities
