Tec de Monterrey Guadalajara Student Handbook

The former capital of New Galicia, Guadalajara rises up majestically over the Valle de Atemajac. The city represents the essence of Mexicanness: traditional, conservative ideas imbued with the spirit of its nearly 500 years of history expressed in a contemporary, cosmopolitan city. The capital of the state of Jalisco, with the second largest population in Mexico, is the place of residence of an industrious, friendly people that have strived to build one of the most attractive, comfortable and richest cities in Latin America.

Guadalajara, set in a fertile valley in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Occidental enjoys an exceptional year-round climate together with the benefits of one of the country's largest hydrological networks. The wealth of this city, which has always played a key role in Mexican history, is evident in the strength of its manufacturing industry, which mainly produces consumer goods, and its intense cultural life.

The Guadalajara Campus was founded in 1991 on 91 acres (close to 225 hectares) of land in the northwest outskirts of the city. Magnificent gardens surround the campus making it a beautiful setting to roam each day. Students enjoy amenities including:
* The Cyber Plaza - an outdoor computer lab and meeting place.
* 100% wireless internet connections.
* A modern gym and Olympic-size swimming pool.
* Three soccer fields, a 400-meter track, baseball diamond, and basketball, volleyball & tennis courts.

Guadalajara boasts a variety of non-academic activities bound to spark your interest. The campus offers workshops in singing, dancing, and music. Or, if sports are your strength, you're also invited to participate in the intramural tournaments or join our varsity teams and compete in the Inter-Campus Tournaments held each semester. In addition, the International Programs' Office organizes various trips to Michoacan - only a few hours from Guadalajara, Mexico City, Guanajuato and more.

Cuernavaca

Cuernavaca was founded in the 12th century by a chichimecan tribe. Its rich precolumbian heritage can be observed in the archeological sites like the pyramids found at Teopanzolco. Even more impressive, is that the city was the home of two of Mexico's most important historical figures: the Aztec emperor, Moctezuma, and later the Spanish conqueror, Hernan Cortes.

Cuernavaca is known throughout the world as the City of Eternal Spring due to its near-perfect climate and a year-round supply of lush, vibrant flora. Located in central Mexico, it is a favorite vacation spot, within close proximity of other exciting cities like Acapulco, Puebla, Taxco, Oaxaca and Teotihuacan,and is just 45 minutes south of Mexico City. Founded in 1983, Tec de Monterrey's Cuernavaca Campus is located in a scenic residential area on the south end of the city.

Cuernavaca's students are close enough to experience the cultural richness of Mexico's capital, while living in a much smaller community where it is easier to meet people. Cuernavaca is home to more than twenty research institutions in such diverse fields of study as Solar Energy, Anthropology, Electricity, Biotechnology, Genetic Engineering, Physics, Marketing and Traditional Medicine.
