Citrix lab/classroom update

Technology Support Services is currently working on the Citrix issues that have been reported to the Help Desk. Most of the issues seem to be with Microsoft PowerPoint presentations that contain embedded videos. To make things run more smoothly, we are making PowerPoint available on the computer rather than through Citrix in the classrooms. You will still be able start PowerPoint using the desktop icon and should not notice any differences other than improved audio/video performance.

The "My Computer" icon will also be removed from the desktop to help ensure that you won't be running the PowerPoint through Citrix. Instead of going through My Computer, we recommend opening the program, such as PowerPoint, then opening the file that you would like to use within the program. This is generally done by clicking on File in the menu bar and clicking Open.

These changes will be made after 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday so that we do not interrupt your classes.

Here are some general tips for using PowerPoint in the classrooms:
1. It is more efficient to use a hyperlink to online videos in PowerPoint, rather than embedding it.
2. Save your PowerPoint files in the most recent file format (.pptx).
3. If a video file is embedded in the PowerPoint file, make sure that the video is located in the same folder as the PowerPoint.

We are also investigating the issue with Citrix not launching programs properly. If you or your students are experiencing this or other lab/classroom issues, please notify the Help Desk with as much detail as possible by e-mailing helpdesk@snc.edu or submitting the Service Request Form at http://www.snc.edu/service.
